Year Three: An Introduction

Over the summer months, I have been researching and developing short story ideas with the intent on producing a short animated film in my third year of University. Today, we were given the brief for the pre - production part of the film making process for our film ideas. I have decided that, after thinking seriously about the project and the amount of time that I have to produce the whole film, I won't be making the film anymore. I feel that my film idea is too complicated, and due to the amount of time I have to produce it, I won't be able to finish it on time, nor to a standard that I would be proud of. I have, however, been trying to shorten and simplify the story and characters so the film will be manageable but there is no way for me to do it without seriously damaging the film in terms of the message I want to get across and the visuals wouldn't do the film any justice at all.

I have now decided to just help other people out with their films this year, in particular animation. Animation is my passion and still remains that area that I want to work in after University. Becuase I have been developing my idea over the summer months, and had started asking round the year group for assistance in producing my film, no one has asked for my assistance in animating their characters. After Thursday's lesson with Sultan and our new tutor, Hillary, I will know who will be pitching their film idea next week and perhaps be put into a team to help with the animation, as well as any pre-production work they might want doing over the next few weeks.

After looking through my demo reel I produced last year, and the animation exercises that I have started over the summer, I have decided to use my last year to improve my animation skills even further. My aim is to use the work I will be doing for other people's films as well as my own animations to produce a much better demo reel.
